The ABB University in Telford is benefiting from improved building control, significant energy cost reductions and improved functionality following the installation of ABB’s i-bus® KNX intelligent building control equipment. The technology, which has been fitted into three classrooms and two reception areas, was installed by EnTech Ltd, one of ABB’s accredited KNX installers. EnTech was tasked with updating and modernising the technology within the University.

The Functional Earth Unit, and Surge Protection Unit designed by B.E. ABB has signed a deal with Nuaire Ltd to supply variable speed drives for its range of fans. Nuaire, based in South Wales, manufactures the largest range of ventilation products and air handling units in the UK. This will now be complimented by ABB standard drives and ABB standard drives for HVAC which are available in power ratings from 0.75 to 90kW, with larger drives available on request.

Business and public sector urged to invest in energy saving technologies as part of CRC planning

The time and money needed by business and public sector organisations to introduce carbon emission monitoring measures to meet the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC), could put a strain on future investments in technology that can actually lower the energy bill, believes ABB’s Steve Ruddell. The CRC is a cap and trade scheme introduced by the Government and aimed at reducing the carbon emissions by 80% by 2050. The scheme requires some 5,000 organisations which consume over 6 GWh/year and who operate half hourly metering to join and participants will be required to purchase carbon allowances based on the Information Packs they receive from the Environment Agency.

An office block in Manchester is set to save over £29,000 on its annual electricity bill following the installation of ABB variable speed drives on its HVAC system. For several years Jackson House had air flow problems throughout the tenanted areas. One such problem was that the main ventilation plant’s fans were running constantly at full speed. The plant consists of four fans, ranging from 45 to 120 kW; two for supply and two for extraction. The block also has a variable temperature heating system comprising four pumps; two duty pumps and two standby pumps, also running at full speed.
